For the fear of failing before you even begin 

Someone proposes a new project to you, or a vacancy opens up in another department.
Your very first thought isn’t "I wonder what that will be like", but rather "I am not up to it, there is definitely someone better than me". And so, with a perfectly credible excuse, you decline. You save face, but you stay exactly where you are.

The real trap here is that it is not a fear of the unknown. It is the absolute, almost mathematical certainty of your own failure.

Larch works on this invisible block. It won't turn you into an arrogant person, nor will it give you a false sense of security.
It simply lowers the volume of that internal judge telling you that you are not enough, allowing you to actually make that attempt you have been putting off for months. Worst case scenario, you will make a mistake, but at least you will have played the game.
